Sketch 112: Revenger

My character, Revenger, is a master at various weapons, many of them ninja weapons. Over time I'll be doing some sketching of him wielding nunchakus, shuriken, sais, etc.

Sketch 108: Scarlett Centaur

Commission Pencils, 11 x 17"
This is an "after" image that takes place immediately following a past commission in which Scarlett was shot in the back by something.
This buyer had the ingenious idea that it was a centaur transformation ray.
Splendid!

Cyclone Commission (inks)
Cyclone commission, inks.
I haven't read comics regulary for years, so I was completely unaware of this character. She has a pretty cool costume design. Its not too often that we see candy-cane-style leggings on a superhero.
I read an interesting article by Augie De Blieck entitled "Artists: Stop Tracing. Start Cartooning Again," in which he all but attacks those comic book artists who insist on using so much reference and tracing techniques that it milks all the art of a given piece.
I loved it! I found myself shouting (internally) "Amen!" to myself at various points in the article.
That brings us to this drawing of the JSA's Cyclone. I used some drapery reference for the sheet over the piece of furniture, but for the body I did it completely from my head. Sure, I could have scoured the internet for the perfect pose and just copied it directly, and it might have looked better.
But no. I designed the figure best I could, and I was true to myself.
I do life sketching frequently now, but just for the purpose of sketching. The idea is that with each sketch you do from life, more of what your eye and hand committs to memory sticks, and you're eventually able to piece objects and scenes together without the aid of a model in front of you.
That's my ultimate goal.

Sketch 104: Xenomorph from "Alien"

Commission pencils. Drawn from a photo of a statue. I drew a mirror image of it so it would look a little different.

Sketch 103: Lucien Lacroix from "Forever Knight"

My all time favorite vampire character. Bar none.
As decadent as Lacroix is, he could still fuck Edward Cullen up.
Take that, Twitards.

Commission: Lucretia and the "Warrior Princess"

(Note: Click the image to enlarge it to read the text)
This is a commission I'm very proud to be displaying finally. I had uploaded the inks a few days ago but pulled it shortly afterwards, deciding it best to wait and post the drawing in its entirety.
It was very much a collaborative effort between me and the buyer. He provided the text and some much-appreciated guidance throughout the piece's creation.
The concept originated in our mutual love of the tv show "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" and Lucy Lawless.
Expect more pieces of a "gladiatorial" nature in the near future.
P.S. To see the "uncensored" version, go to http://powguero.deviantart.com/art/Lucretia-and-Her-Captive-160510120
Of course, you can only see it if you have an account on DeviantArt (but it's FREE, people!)

Nightcat Commission

I'm up late taking care of business (it's 1:27 A.M. my time). Our desktop is having some issues with the monitor, so the laptop is the only computer I can comfortably use, and it's hard to pry my kids away from it until they go to bed.
So here's a commission I did for the lovely Jennifer MacDonald http://JLMacDonald.deviantart.com.
In her gallery she has a lot of great Nightcat commissions by some artists you might recognize.
That's all for now, boys and girls!
Be back tomorrow (today?) for a daily sketch and, possibly, a completed commission.
Off to bed...

Sketch 098: Some Villain Doodles

I've created many superheroes in the last two years. But I barely have any villains.
So for tonight's sketch I drew a few sinister looking bad guys.
Some more than others.

Lion-O and Cheetara (colored)

I wasn't totally happy with the job I did on this drawing. Particularly in the size difference in the two figures. But the color (I think) adds much more to it.
I hope to do more Thundercats commissions in the future. Cheetara is dead sexy!

Another sketch of the Duke of Darkness, one of the Golden Age characters that captured my attention a while back. I plan on re-imagining his further in the future, perhaps with a better name.

Gremlin Commission

This is John McLaren's Gremlin. Creepy looking little guy!
It's been a very productive last few days, both on commissions and on my personal projects (the Revenger Webcomic and the Sovereign 5 page sequential installment for the Arcadia Collective Anthology).
Stay tuned for further updates.

Sketch 091: Xena/Lucretia teaser

No time for a sketch tonight. I'm too busy working on a project that's coming due very soon. But here's a segment of a commission I'm working on featuring Xena: Warrior Princess, and Lucretia, wife of Batiatus, from the tv show "Spartacus: Blood and Sand." Both of these characters have been played by Lucy Lawless. Thus the appeal.

More Google Images fishing. I was looking or a man's face to draw, and I saw Joseph Fiennes as William Shakespeare and decided to go with it.
