Khan Commission

Commission Inks, 11 x 17"

150: Sovereign Panel Inks Complete

I've posted this same panel three or four times now. I finally got around to inking it in. You can see what I put it off for a while. Despite my sketchy, impressionistic method, buildings are a bitch.

147: Sovereign Inks Progress

As of tonight I won't be calling these nightly postings "sketches" anymore. Most of the time they're works in progress, rarely something I sat down to sketch.

This is the bottom half of the first page of Sovereign's latest installment. I'm getting a late start on this chapter. Deadline is fast approaching. Pencils on all five pages are extremely rough, but they're ready for inking. Time to get moving!

Sketch 146: Power Girl!

Sold!

Dumb Bunny and Merry Man Juggling

Finished the commission earlier. I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. If I would change anything it would be the horizon line. I'd lover it a little bit. As is it gives the impression of a vast space behind them.

Enjoy.

Sketch 145: Khan Inks Progress

I would have had this Khan commission completed, but I figured out that the reference I was using was a "mirror" image, in which Khan's gloved (cybernetic?) hand was on the wrong side. And since his costume isn't symmetrical, that posed a problem. I'll be touching it up in the next few days, and I'll post a scan of the final piece.

Sketch 142: Another Elfquest Commission

Commission Pencils, 11 x 17"

The previous EQ commission is completed except for a correction I need to make on one of the character's hands. Apparently they have four fingers on each hand instead of five. The inks of this commission will be corrected, since I made the same mistake in the pencils.

Note how, in pressing their naked breasts together here, the two female elves are censoring themselves!

Censored Segments

Here are some segments from a few recent commissions that aren't really blog friendly. Enjoy!

Sketch 141: Link and Zelda!

Commission pencils, 8.5 x 11"

I've fallen off the radar today. I just have a lot of art to catch up on, and I've tried to limit distractions as much as I can.

Here's a Link/Zelda commission I'm working on. The inks will be up in a few days.

Sketch 139: Sovereign Panel: Thor In Hot Pursuit

These two panels follow the Sovereign panel from a few nights ago. It's Thor, the Norse god of thunder, in hot pursuit of Sovereign!

Sketch 137: Nightcat and Raphael

Commission Pencils, 10 x 17"
This drawing will make more sense once the word balloons are added later.

Tinker Thor 2.0

Wonder Woman/Aquaman (colored)

I'm not too pleased with my job on Aquaman. But what are you going to do, you know? I'm never totally happy with anything I draw. That's part of being an artist.

Sketch 136: Revenger Panel

This is a cropped section of a Revenger splash page in which our hero spends a few moments remembering a love from his past.

I was going to post it this week, but I've gone nearly a month since the last update, and I think I'm going to wait until I get at least 2 more pages done before I start posting again.

Sketch 134: Unused Thor Panel

This panel was supposed to be the first panel in the Sovereign story for the Arcadia Anthology #4. I decided to go another direction with it, so I put this sketch aside. It might pop up sooner or later in a completed form.

Sketch 132: Kahn!

I'm still working out the second half (it's scanned in segments). Enjoy.

Purveyor In Action!

Commission inks, 11 x 17"
I actually played around with the scan on the image editor, blacking out nearly everything inside the blacks.

Sketch 131: Dumb Bunny and Awkward Man!

This is the full preliminary pencils for a commission featuring DC's Dumb Bunny and Awkward Man. The only change I need to make before moving on to the inks is to thicken up Dumb Bunny's legs. I made them a little thinner than they are in the reference pic. I'm also going to add a little background detail.

Sketch 129: Dumb Bunny

The preliminary pencils of this commission aren't done yet, but here's a snippet from it.

Sketch 126: Wolf Chick from 2007

I had to spend most of the evening at the hospital with my wife, who was having some issues her kidneys (turns out that it's kidney stones), so no new drawing tonight.

Instead I'm posting this She-Wolf sketch from 2007. It's one of the only pieces of art from those days that I'm happy with. I had started drawing again after a span of ten years in which I rarely picked up a pencil.

I was going through my old blog, and I'm astounded at the difference three years makes. Some of that old stuff was TERRIBLE! Of course, I'll probably be saying the same thing in the future about what I'm churning out now.

It's the nature of the artist, I suppose.

Night.

Sketch 124: Elfquest Bath Time

This sketch features Dewshine and Tyleet from "Elfquest."

I'm sure this won't be the final pencils on this. So the inks might look a lot different. Then again, the buyer may be happy with it as it is.

Sketch 123: Bender Rodriguez!

Excrutiating tooth pain kept me from finishing any commission pencils today, but it's subsided, and I cranked out this quick sketch before bedtime. Enjoy!

Sketch 122: Wonder Woman, Diving Champ!

Commission Pencils, 8.5 x 11".
Apparently Wonder Woman had a blue diving suit back in the 70s (originating in the Linda Carter tv show, from what I gather).

That's Aquaman in the background, exhausted from the competition.

sketch 121: Posemaniac!

I found this cool site called posemaniacs.com. They have thousands of figures or gesture drawing, and they even have an iphone app that I downloaded to my ipod touch. Check it out!
