169: Barbara Gordon (Oracle) Commission

It’s obvious that I’m not part of the “photo-realistic” school of thought that has permeated the comic book landscape in the last decade. My style leans toward the animated or “cartoonish.”

That being said, setting up this piece was a real challenge, and it’s one that I put upon myself to try. I could have drawn Barbara sitting in a wheel chair in an open white space, but I had a picture in my head that I thought would make for more dynamic drawing.

I kept the computer screens and circuitry very minimalistic, remembering those computers in the Batcave on Batman: The Animated Series. They had barely any detail at all, that I can recall. And yet it worked.

For better or for worse, that’s what I tried to do here.

I’m very hard on myself when it comes to my art. And that’s a good thing, I suppose. There are several commissions that I’ve done over the last couple of years that I’ve never posted anywhere because I just don’t like the job I did. I really need to outgrow that.
I’ve improved quite a bit in the three years since I started drawing regularly after nearly a decade of casual doodling, but I still have a long way to go.

168: Suicide Sketching!

I participated in a fun activity on Twitter the other night called "Suicide Sketching." Here's the results. Not my best work, but I only spent about five minutes or so on each one. I hope to do it again some time.

165: Red Robin

I joined a Daily Sketch Group on Deviantart, and this is today's topic, Red Robin (Tim Drake).

It was a good warm up excercise before starting on commission work today.

164: Revenger Sneak Peak

Here's another small preview of a Revenger panel I finished the other night. I work on the strip in my spare time, and little by little I'm getting this arc finished (if you want to call it an "arc"). The Bat has finally been apprehended (with the unsolicited assistance of Magna), and I'll soon be plotting the next chapter.

Some changes are in store for Revenger in the near future, specifically his costume design. I want to him to look more like a ninja that what I initially designed. Look for him to be using more weapons as well. Nightsticks, sais, nunchakus, and throwing stars.

162: Oracle Commission Pencils

Sorry for the poor quality image. I'm away from the scanner at the moment, so I took a picture with a cell phone camera. I'll upload a better quality image later.

156: Dumb Bunny Progress

I worked on several projects today, but didn't finish any of it.
Here's the inks progress on the latest Dumb Bunny commission...
P.S. In retrospect it looks like she has one breast, so I'll be adding some shadows to give the impression that there are two of them on her chest :)

155: Unused Sovereign Panels

Some more unused panels from my Sovereign story. This little sequence just didn't seem dynamic enough, and even felt lazy. So I changed the plot up a bit to something a little more dramatic (at least to me).

This is a sketch of a lion cub that goes in the Dumb Bunny/White Feather commission I posted a scan of the other night.
