Sketchbook: A Simpler Style

I grew up idolizing those artists with hyper-detailed styles, but things changed as I got older. I became fascinated with those artists who can economize their linework and tell the same story, without sacrificing the energy that givessuperhero comics their appeal. Some artists that come to mind are Bruce Timm, Darwyn Cooke, and Michael Avon Oeming.

I've been experimenting with simplifying my own style, and here are two examples from my sketchbook. If you follow my work you may recognize Revenger. The other guy is a villain I came up with on the fly.

    Ooh, I like the villain. Any chance of him making an appearance in Revenger's future?

    Looking good! I am slowly trying the same thing but more ala Milton Caniff or Alex Toth. :)
